Double passenger seat spins, usually use table there, probably get one on a moveable rail this time So where you are showing strut is the storage of it? I think you're confused if you mean the bit on the back where I've put "table store" you can buy a table that fits on your back door while not in use and it stops the pillows falling down the gap too.

Imo your cupboards are too deep as one why not split the cupboard in half depth ways and hinge so you can fold back i.e. 2x400 deep 700 long this would then give you a wider full lenth bed if you made extra width with a foam covered lid x2 for access to storage under?

What's the idea of the low level next to the bed ..? Make bed wider Its tricky making suggestions without being there but the low level bit at the head end won't actually give you a properly wider bed. I've seen vans where the whole length of the bed was low level cupboards and the van had cushions which filled the gap and brought it up to be a full width bed. if it's not a claustrophobic issue with the 3/4 bed then how about bringing it up to window level all the way to the back. Make hatches so's you can access the cupboards from the top. That means you get full access whether the beds up or down. if you do that you could design a 'rat run' tunnel which occupies the very bottom of the cupboards, about 12" high going from the back doors and all the way forward. Accessed only from the open back door it gives you somewhere to store long stuff like awnings and poles, windbreaks and camping chairs. i don't know if you've ever seen the one I designed in my van but I've had tons of stuff in there and it's totally out of the way.

The idea of part low is really just so it gives a bit more shoulder room in bed, I'm not trying to make a wider bed as such, think along the lines of my old bay, when we slept wrong way (feet to tailgate) because the fridge was the same level as the bed it felt a load wider than the other way with the wardrobe making it 3/4 wide, I know what you're saying about cushions on top but it's not what I'm after, more so that I'm not trapped in by a tall unit and it's only 3/4 wide. As daft as it sounds I'll have more space because most of the old units were only accessible from the rear so once camping we just threw junk in it.

I like the idea of the long bottom storage unit! I also like, apart from roof box, all the storage being below window level makes a big difference re light in the van during daylight hours! What colour is the wood?

I wondered if it was the comfort of the perception of a wider bed. I'd still recommend making hatches in the worktop so you can get into any cupboard that's blocked by the bed when it's in bed mode. With our bed down there is just one drawer in the whole van which we can't get to but I've still lost count of how many times we've made the bed, got snuggled down and then I've realised that my book and reading glasses are in that very same drawer. You've no idea how much it pisses Jan off when I chuck her out of bed and fold it all up just to get my book.

What colour is the wood? There's no window at the back it's a dummy outside. The high level unit is only a possibility at the mo, I don't like to feel claustrophobic. I am going full on red same as the kick board with a different colour top.

I haven't find my roof box has got in the way at all and has been a really good place to store stuff you wanna get at when the bed is down! I also feel by having a light colour makes the van look a lot more spacious and light! Chuck all of your red panels in the van and make sure they don't make the van too dark!

Touch of the century and proves karma works. Yesterday we were clearing out some old wood at work to skip, some old chap asks what we're doing with it? I say free to a good home, he says oooh, can I fetch my trailer and have it? I'll be back in an hour. I say yes. Man fetches wood then lets on he's 71 and a retired cabinet maker of 55 years...... anything I can do for you just ask says he..... mmmm I say, can I milk your brains on my van interior? He has a look, and says I'll make you a flat pack up if you supply the wood, I say I've got it.... he says I'll be back tomorrow with my tools. Made the carcasses and base and showed me best way of squaring them up, I say I'll fit them this weekend he says I'll come back next week and make your doors but if you're struggling let me know and I'll help you fit it! So I'm happy chap! His rough plan of my idea. The finished flat pack. Wouldn't take any money just a cuppa tea and a roll of plastic and some pipe lagging I had at work.
