Soon be able to try it out against mine. If you stay under 5,000 rpm to make it fair. Just had a run to the beach and back .... left this guy in his flashy looking T4 diesel for dead ... soon became a blur in the rear mirror and I didn't ever go above 5,000 rpm

So have you made any changes to the brakes, suspension, steering etc.? As I'm fond of saying...why? Unless you plan rallying it, a bit of heel and toe or driving at 80-90-100mph you won't be going any faster, just getting up to speed quicker and not slowing down up hills.

So have you made any changes to the brakes, suspension, steering etc.? None at all. My brakes have a servo and are in good condition. I had some quality rear shocks fitted but its standard height. Oh and I got fellows to fit my (original style) Tacho that had been sitting in the garage for a couple of years. Exactly as Zed says don't really go any faster just get to speed a bit quicker and able to overtake without crapping myself or having to build up speed first can just put my foot down and something happens. Its transformed the bus for me, less likely have popped down to the beach with my lad today if I had still been air-cooled, the 50 mile round trip is so much less stressful.

We all have different experiences of ye olde air cooled don't we. I don't remember ever wondering if I'd make it somewhere however far it was apart from when the gearbox was jumping out of 4th. When my 1700 dropped a valve seat it still went 50mph on the way home. We used to have to bump the westy off quite often but it was all part of the fun. The 1600 was underpowered but the rest have been fine really.
