The garage isn't on the plans for the house. According to my neighbour over the road the guy who lived here originally (before the man who died who had lived here for 24 years) was quote "a bit of a wideboy bodger" No shit.

Nope, built with no permission, we had to get the seller to get retrospective permission and a legal disclaimer to say their father (who died) had lived there 24 years and it was up when he bought it in the 80's. From talking to my neighbour over the road (who's lived here since the houses were new) the original owner (bodge man) did it, he used to buy lost luggage from airports and train stations etc and sell it from the garage like a shop.

Today is gonna be the last day with the builder for a while, we've had every weekend bar one since 15th April, and we're out of cash and he wants his weekend back! Today is a small tidy up of the front wall where I butchered it out to widen the drive. He's quoted us for a porch and a fence round the front but this will have to wait until we get straight cash wise, the windows and door into garage fiasco has now been sorted and they should be getting fitted in the next week or two, the drive survey has been done and I'm just awaiting a date for that. Here's a pic from a few weeks ago, the wall was originally a bit longer but the day we moved in my brother hit it with his van so I knocked about a foot off it and just 'plonked' the pillar back on a pile of compo. This is it as it is now, the idea is tidy up and shorten a fraction more so once the tarmac is done they will merge it with the path, the load of concrete was thrown in as the path kept collapsing when I drove over it. I suppose I better put the fire hydrant sign back as well.

Just searched through loads of pictures on my computer as I can't get them off Photobucket or imageshack, here's a pic from a few days after I moved in where you see how the wall was (after my brother hit it lol) the entrance was only one car wide and I'd forgotten already there were massive spiky bushes all along the side.

I can't believe a cat didn't walk on that ,they don't normally take notice of tape.

That's it then, I've bid the builder farewell until September as we both want the summer to enjoy our weekends! The rest of the tatting about is me in my own time, painting garage doors before the new drive and general garden works etc. Obviously the drive people will remove and tidy all the crap concrete etc when they blend in to the path.

The brickwork looks brilliant Rick, seems you've latched onto a good builder.

In preparation for the drive being done I've just been shifting a few barrows of topsoil from the front (shame to skip it) and I'm digging away and hit plenty of full house bricks (nowt unusual for here - mr bodger seems to have buried many things) but this was something special even for him. It looks like either a massive kerbstone or a lintel of some kind. It was fekkin heavy is all I know. God knows what they will find under the slabs when they do the drive.
