Hello sexy girls, It seems there are 2 oil strainers available for 1600 , one with a 14.5 mm hole for single relief( no idea what that means), and one with an 18.5 mm hole. How do I know which one i need before I remove the old one? I dont re!member having this choice in times gokne by?

Early cases had a single oil pressure control valve, later had 2 (dual). If you know you need one, you must be able to see the hole? Measure it.

Nah just for an oiil change on new engine hence its fitted so can't check and don't want to be caught short once I've got it off...

Oh that bit! It'll be dual relief, the big slot headed flat screw in caps on the bottom of the crank case in the middle, one front, one back. They all have the rear one.
But why replace this? It's a thing to clean, maybe, after 50,000 miles, not replace unless you stand on it.
I would hope your engine came with a drain plug in the middle of the plate (the 6 nut one) for easy oil changes, you don't then need even the gaskets, just a small crush washer, or reuse the old one and you won't even see the gauze one, which will be fine.

What does that gauze filter do? It stops things like small washers and broken up valve stem seals being drawn into the oil pump and jamming it. I would hope it hasn't had to catch anything at all.

Yeah it has a drain plug, but when I did the 500 mile oil change there was lots of bits of sealant in the strainer, (lots of folk assured me that was "normal" ) I cleaned it out but a couple tiny bits I couldn't remove , anyway thought it best to check strainer again now I've done another 1000 ish for more liumps and replace with new....

It's not normal, there should not be any! They should use a sealant that dissolves in oil so you shouldn't have found anything and they shouldn't use that much anyway. I thought you went for a Vege? I'm gob smacked. What colour were the bits?

I was pretty worried about it , was probaby tlb I posted it on for advice and everyone said don't worry, normal , just change the oil and drive etc etc....... Seems fine though, done another thousand since then......

No idea what green stuff could be. Curyl-T is the (expensive) sealant most builders use and it's brown. Did you question the builder when you found the sealant?

I know many peeps think case sealant is belt and braces but as you say, there's some tiny galleries to clog up with stuff like rtv, hopefully no little bits cause premature fuckage.

Worse, it also makes all the bearing loose by adding to the overall width of the case so if you get away with the worms the engine life is shortened.

There was a fair bit of green sealant on the exterior of the case whwrere it had splodged out from seams and jointing faces. Didn't contact the TES bloke about it as all the experts assured me it was normal
