I had some bills to pay, sold 2 nice shiney vans, paid the bills and bought a minger with the change. He was a bit rustier than he looks here. He had belly pans so all sills outriggers were replaced, and all the arches, the deformation panel etc etc. ALL the normal stuff - 6 weeks 6 days a week solid welding.

Then it got pushed around the workshop for five or six years gathering dust until... I removed the poptop lift up bit with canvas and then this bit... ...and some gash bits of rusty crap Devon fitted, perhaps as a nod to supporting the bunks? ...repaired the hole on the tin roof at one corner. Then removed the loose paint and rust and treated right round the roof hole.

It's been a while since I last looked at it so I had a dust inside - stage one clean-up, then it was pushed outside and blown with an air line and dusted more and more...and more... The paint inside was pretty good where there is paint, I was thinking of leaving most and blow in the bits than need it. Most is covered up by furniture anyway.

I prepped and painted the bottom bit of the poptop... ...and the bumpers... wet on wet to get it done quick, not too bad a result. Then it was the turn of the doors, but these just got high build primer on the outside for now. I should have done the engine lid too, but I was running out of space as had these to do for another van.

Doors L90D white inside. Now this does make it look a bit quick and easy, but previously I'd laboured long and hard on these doors/bumpers/poptop to get them ready for paint, then dusted them over with primer where appropriate and stashed them for several years. The doors now just needed flatting back and painting green.

Shit in the paint of course. Hardly surprising. Painting things laid flat is great in respect to runs and sags, but the downside is more chance of poo landing on it.

Next the van was pushed round to the paint area and I spent a long day cleaning, sanding scuffing, degreasing inside and out, filling pinholes, smoothing out some wobbles...it was very dirty inside. I decided I should paint it. The engine bay can only look better painted...

Small update. The first layer sound proofing. No real idea what I'm doing, but last time I was left thinking I should have used more, so this time I did. I just stuck it where I thought would be good until I ran out. I was toying with maybe putting something under the cargo floor and possibly the cab floor too. The early got a lot queiter when I had the cargo floor area covered in whatever I was moving - say a trip to the dump. Most of the time it's not covered though. Moving on and got the first layer of floor (6mm) down too. Second layer and Marmoleum next. Then last thing I laid the marmoleum out to rest. It's stiff stuff and it was a job to get it unrolled at all. Earlier I put the trim round the poptop base and balanced that on top on some wood on the roof, ready to lower into position while I think about sealant or no sealant. It's going to be tricky guessing where to put it that would have an effect as once it's fitted you can't see it.

As I was sort of stuck in the van, it being the only clean space in my new world, I popped the roof on. I can't get screws until Monday without paying silly money, Devon used about 500 of them. ...and made a start on the second layer of 10mm closed cell sound proofing/insulation. Never been a big fan of insulating, I must be getting old!

Tried to fit side panels but the clips JK sold me are for the thin original cards and won't go onto their thicker MDF efforts. So, another layer of floor (3.2mm)... And the Marmoleum (Lino). I'd have picked something different this time but I was given this, so... And got some mats fitted...
