Hey folks my name is Dave but most call me Robo...
My mum always had bugs from before I can remember up until she switched to various Polo's in the late 80's. I've owned a couple of rot box bugs in the past also, I knew there was magazines you could buy from WH Smiths and the like & shows to attend but had no idea it was as big as it was or had become.
We like to go abroad but found that we couldn't do this every year so we would offset the cost of going abroad with a camping holiday every other year which worked well for us and we had loads of fun doing both types of holidays even before the kids which also seems a very long time ago!
It wasn't until we had a couple of the camping holidays completely washed out that I said lets get a camper, we can chase the weather without having to pack up a huge tent & all the stuff you take camping soaking wet through into the family hatchback with roofbox, this is where it began! This dream was quickly squashed once realising the prices of T5's but determined this is what we wanted we started saving our pennies!
Although dead set on a T5 we had the opportunity to view a bay which fell within the stash of cash we had & we thought lets go for it, give it a try to see if we like campervan life, our money should be safe and when we have a bit more saved we can get the T5 we actually wanted knowing that we wouldn't be wasting our cash on summat we wouldn't enjoy / use. So there it began!
We had our ups and downs with the bay but all in all we thoroughly enjoyed the experiences & especially the friends we have made over the years! But with all this maintenance and bits dropping off just as your pulling out the drive for a weeks holiday it wasn't quite what we wanted from a campervan which was the 'oh look its gonna be a scorcher this weekend lets bob off to the coast for a night or two' so at the beginning of 2016 we sold our beautiful bay Molly to a lovely chap from London & we started our search for a T5.
We visited a dealers as I was dead set on buying as new & as low mileage mid spec van that our money would buy to start a self build camper but Mrs Robo didn't have the same idea, she wanted me to buy something that we could go camping in immediately! She even threw a butternut squash at me that morning, so I knew she meant business!
Well I looked and told the salesman about the configuration of the bay, bed up top, big bed downstairs, leisure & hookup, no cooking or sink facilities etc. to which he said have you seen the one VW does, I said I've seen the price & its out my price range! He said we have what you describe & he showed us Alfie, he's a california beach with no extra's so was no where near the price of the full blown cooker sink etc. campers, kids loved him, importantly Mrs Robo loved him so we only went and bloody bought him!
So this brings you all up to date with our campervan life to date, we love camping with just the four of us, we love meeting up with old friends we've made through bay ownership and we also like meeting new friends too! Hope to see some of you out there sometime soon!
What will the future bring??? Who knows but I could see us always having some form of camper or even a little motorhome thingy bringing more home comforts for our future adventures once the kids have buggered off on their own life journeys, hopefully keeping a link back to VW's but that will become less important with time & financial constraints!

Welcome Paul's, as gooner says, nobody gets banned, ever, but do feel free to take the piss out of people's postings if you feel they are deserving instead. Power to the people

We ought to run a book to see if someone posts a link "over there" how long it takes someone to notice and lock/remove it. 10 minutes I reckon
