The beetles fuel tank is a bit rusty inside. It's been sat for two years with moisture getting in. So what's your best tips for cleaning it. I don't want to use frost stuff as it isn't much cheaper than buying a new tank (veewee £82) So quick cheaper cleanup tips please. I'm thinking a chain and since shaking followed by some toilet cleaner and water to make hydrochloric acid. The pic is of the seized up rusty fuel sender. Cleaned it a bit and some 3in1 oil and it's now working again!! And a pic of the tank filter

If you can get access to a cement mixer you could strap the tank to it for the chain/nuts and bolts process and leave it running for a few hours. It'd save a helluva lot of shaking.
youll also need lots of baking soda to neutralise the acid afterwards.

Mate, it's a fuel tank, they can split when in bad condition or be rotten in corners. Why risk the rest of the car when a new one at Hermatige is under £100.00. Probably get one cheaper at other places.
