May have imagined this, but I think Zed fitted a temp gauge designed for 2CV's. Looking on the website, the connection between head sensor and gauge is only 4m long......can't see how a thermocouple can be extended ..... or am I missing something?

I had one in my bay, worry gauge.... best not fit one. The T5 has no temp gauge at all.

A lot of modern cars don't have temp gauges. Mrs has not got one in her 5 yr old fiesta. I havn't got one in my 48 yr old van.

I'd rather have worry gauges than my dashboard suddenly light up and come to a halt.

Extend with ordinary wire.👍 So the connection isn't a thermocouple....must be like the £ 46 digital ones I've seen on EBay. Are you happy with the set up?

The thermocouple is the two wires from the heat pickup, which is just a crimp terminal, to whatever you extend them with. The thermocouple wire pair are a particular length that calibrate it for the gauge. They come with a harness suitable for a 2CV.
I snipped the harness to avoid messing with the thermocouple wires and to keep the connectors for the gauge and add a van length in between. I used speaker cable as I already had enough for the job.

Off to the South coast at the weekend for a few weeks to try and find summer....if I get back with the engine in one piece, I will get a 2CV kit ordered.......I may be back on here asking more questions.
