Oh and it's genuine one that is on there now, probably original.

Annoyingly loads of fresh looking grease in the but just dried out horrible stuff on the joint itself. So do I put the new one in order regressed and repack and refit? Eh? Sorry, do I fit a new one or re-grease and re-fit the original?

Sorry, do I fit a new one or re-grease and re-fit the original? Weeeerl, the question is: Do you feel lucky? Or do you want to get covered in black shit dismantling and inspecting?

I'd cherish those gaitors though, give them a kiss. 😄

That looks knackered. I once drove 100 miles stopping every ten or so as required to wiggle the shaft and stop the knocking as soon as it started again. It was so loud I was getting stared at. Then I regreased without looking and they were still fine when I sold the bus a few years later. But as I didn't look at them I don't know how bad they were. There was no clicking, it was very loud banging.

mine was a knocking so i reckon its fooked. will change it but clean and keep this as a spare just in case!! could probs get another few years out of them of i turned them round to wear the other side but cant be bothered. will fit new and hope i did my 50/50 guess right, might pop one ball out of the other end and clean it to see

Done, seems quite tight but it is new so meh. Diff output seal in the morning then on with it and test drive. Then a bit of extra welding in the engine brace to be in the stage side. Oh yeah and fit my oil catch tank/bottle to eliminate the reason for the oil spots on the back of the bus, but might have been gearbox oil I guess.

Everyone told me it would take about two hours, it took all day! Swapped all 4 of mine and kept all the old ones as spares One of mine was banging away, but none of my cages seemed as damaged as yours. Always be careful not to pop a ball out in public!
