Thinking about sorting the fibreglass/grp (?) poptop (big viking jobby) in preparation for repairing the van metal roof. Anyway the top of the poptop , the surface is a bit funny, it doesnt clean up , feels rough to the touch, and goes very greenybrowny very easily. I presume the paint or coating has failed so how do I sort it to get a nice shiny painted surface again? Can I just sand it down and paint it or is the fibreglass finish buggered and needs some sort of specialist work? I'm not expecting a perfect finish and I'll be hand painting it outside, but I'd like it to not be green anymore....

There's a gel coat on fibreglass which has obviously deteriorated on yours, I would imagine you could sand and respray it but I'm no expert, pop to a local paint place and ask them, that said zed will know I bet.

This might help if there's some cracks in it - it's based on been used to repair a boat but the principles are the same: www.fibreglass.com/techgel.htm

You can't paint it onto the roof as it's not paint and needs the mould to make it shiney and flat. It's worth using decent paint made for the job or it'll end up worse than it is now.
