My panel says it provides 22v open circuit and 17v at peak power.
So I size the cables for 150w at 17v yes? This comes out at 2.4mm dia with 3% losses.
If I do same calc for 12v I find I need 4mm dia.
Which is right?

I got 2.5mm which said it was capable of 150w in the advert, I only run 100w and unless we change the way we camp is plenty for us.

There are plenty of 10a controllers being sold as part of 150w kits but if you do the valve on 12v, that's too small, or marginal. Therefore I conclude we're being told half the story when advised to use 12v in calculations rather than 17-18v.

Read the question again. Doh! I don't read what I write so why would you think I'd read others writings?

Id say they feel as it's uk it's a rare day you get enough sun for long enough to warrant higher amp controller.

I got myself an mppt charge controller identical to the one on the bus, some cable, connectors, fuses, some mini trunking and a double cable gland, bolted the panel to the roof, installed the rest and it's up and running. It's the same bits as I had on the early but that was never really tested.
I've switched off the mains charger to see if a 150w panel can keep up with the fridge. I need about 24ah per day. Say that's over 6 hours that's 4ah per hour. 12x4=48w average. Hmm, well, you never know but I won't hold my breath. I think I can add another 100w panel in series and keep within the cable and controller limits.

Ahhhh, have you put it on your boat? Yes though the van needs another panel too. 1 thing at a time. I had to replace the shite washer pump today after the previous one seized and burnt out after just a year. I mounted this one the other way up - you never know...

When are you gonna set sail and move somewhere nearer so we can come see you. I know a great mooring in Yorkshire with a campsite along side.
