I fancy doing some changes to my engine and to take the pressure off I'm looking for a temporary runner to get me to the shops and the like while I work on it.
Anyone got one lying around? Or an 1800 maybe? Not a 1700 though, they would struggle with my gearbox I think.

Hmm, what tinkery are you up to now then young man? I would like to reduce it's deck height and will have to deal with finding approx 17cc per chamber to do it. And/or cam it up a teeny bit to reduce the need for such low static CR and therefore not have findd so many CCs. Robs a bit cagey and can't remember CCs or deck height so it's going to be a bit into the unknown. It's far too much effort to take a head off for a look and to make plans unless I'm going to follow through.

Fair enough. You just can't leave it alone can you.. curse of the curious mind? There's potential for another 50-60HP so 30HP more at similar revs I hope wouldn't lead to self destruction and would be cheap enough to do. Watch this space though, I might go a bit power giddy once I start.

I think I have a 3 rib box in the shed if you get a 1700 engine.

I think I have a 3 rib box in the shed if you get a 1700 engine. It's difficult to decide what to do as it's a combination of everything that makes it work. If one isn't careful it's too easy to get carried away. I might change the cam to an extremely mild one with more exhaust duration, otherwise it looks like I could get away with machining the parts I already have. Or... I could get bigger valve heads, cure the deck with a bigger crank, fit a more racey cam, replace the entire exhaust system...madness! It's good as it is, it just irks me to know there's such a large deck. But then again tight deck doesn't really pay back much at lower revs so the idea of "fixing" it is a bit silly anyway. Or... I might just do bugger all and sell the whole van next year. I'd like to jolly around the canals a bit and the van would be a ball and chain. I think I might just be a bit bored.

Reading your posts that occurred to me too. Flog the van and go selling coal on the cut.

I'm on a lazy holiday in Spain, here since Sunday, hot and bored. I'd rather be camping or out on my bike or doing something.
