A couple of months back Lena (Mrs Robo) was asked by our singer friend we met in Spain many years back who now lives & works in the UK if I'd convert his Voyager into a stealth camper so he can use it during the week whilst he's working. I honestly thought he had gone completely mad, why on earth would you convert a car into a camper!  Well he asked again last week & I called his bluff! We then talked about what he wanted & how he was going to use the vehicle when not in camper mode so I could work out how the hell to do it! Bed Curtains Leisure Battery & split charge system LED Lights 12 volt sockets & usb something to boil a kettle on Stealth camper during the week so he can camp on the outskirts of London and tube it into work, weekends he would like to be able to possibly carry a couple of passengers. So a fair bit of googling, joining various facebook closed groups etc. etc. I hatched a plan and drew up a shopping list & put a price against it and said send me the cash so I can order the materials thinking he would then back out but no the cash landed in my account & I placed the orders. Unfortunately due to the short notice I've had to buy everything via Amazon due to having prime and guaranteed the items would arrive before this weekend! I'm planning to build a bed like this:   Apparently all his seats can be removed & stored in his garage at home, the bed can be in the back so he's got a seat for chilling and watching TV then pull it out into bed mode for sleeping! At the weekend the bed can be pushed into seat mode and the rear passenger seats can be fitted back in for transporting passengers etc. simple but then it needs to be as I'm not a master builder but reckon the above is doable... He will be getting to Casa Robo's (our gaff) Saturday evening & my plan of action is to go out and template the windows & make a start on the curtains, gone with a very simple idea nicked off tinternet using those press stud fastner things...    Sunday morning we will construct the bed & get that fitted and working, Then work out where I'm going to fit the 110ah battery, hopefully under the rear section of bed & fit the split charge system 12 volt fuse box, 2 No. LED lights and respective fag lighter socket & USB ports. Then it will be back on the curtains & get those fitted. If we have time & any space or time I shall construct a kitchen box with a single canister stove inside all before he drives back to London Monday morning! At least I have a plan of action though! |

Small vehicle campers is a good Facebook page with lots of ideas. If I were to do this to a car I’d probably fit something like a “bootjump” or a “camping box”.

He slept in it on the drive last night, he’s been camping but never previously experienced this level of freedom that a camper can give you oh and luxury that you just don’t get in a tent. I didn’t take any pics myself as I was totally focussed on getting it built! So most of these Mike has sent me & the ones I appear in I had no idea he was taking them 😂😂😂 A few more pics  Mike was working Saturday and drove up straight after getting to us at 5:30pm ish & after a quick chat I made templates for the curtains, cut them & sewed them   Sunday we completely emptied it! Mike set to it with the hoover a shovel & a can of mr sheen, I cracked on with building the bed!    I was originally planning to build a folding bed / rock n roll style but Mike wanted a fixed unit. We compromised and the rear section is fixed & the front is easily removed which would allow him to refit 2 seats if ever needed 👍🏻  There’s a lift up panel to the rear allowing full access to his storage & the same on the front section, he was really happy with it but I just thought he’s easily pleased 😀  I even managed to secure it without having to screw through the floor!  |

I did manage to slice my finger though 🙄  Curtains are fitted using those push fastner things so they go in / out easily & I could screw them into his plastics      I also managed to fit a leisure battery, fuse box, led light, usb sockets & 12 v socket! I’ve got a split charge kit in the garage to fit at a later date as we ran out of time! Lena took him shopping for soft furnishings & she got it looking really nice, she wouldn’t let him see until she’d finished and he got all choked and had tears bless him. The kids love Mike and we’ve not seen him for a couple of years, Katie was away at guide camp so he went with Lena to pick her up & she cried, bless! Then it was Camper karaoke on the way home 😂😂😂 It was hard work but worth it and seeing how pleased Mike was made it all the more worthwhile 😁 |

After spending his first night on our drive he went back to work Monday, parked up and tubed in after work he chilled watching footy parked up in the corner of the station car park he commutes in from but was disturbed at 2 am by half a dozen lads all shining there phone lights in but due to my curtains they gave up and moved on, he said it was a bit unnerving so will be parked up in a more remote location tonight!

Update, he moved to a much quieter location last night and had a better nights sleep in a more quiet area, toilet I get the impression he uses the hedge lol and in the mornings he goes to the gym so showers there and at night swims so again showers before he leaves! He still loves it and is trying up keep it clean and tidy seeing as tho I washed all of his clothes and ironed them! |
