What's the point? They won't improve your stopping AT ALL. Thanks.

Yeah but you can impress(?) some other people with them.
I've never actually seen them on a bay but they probably look better with the right style of wheel.
The bits I've read about them give the impression that they're expensive and need more maintenance than drums - maybe they're for rich people who like fiddling with their brakes.

Maybe it's not having to adjust the handbrake, though I think T25 self adjusters can be fitted more easily.
Another reason I wouldn't is loosing the possibility of returning to stock wheels.

Conversation? Definitely won't improve braking talking about It.

I have always thought its one of the more pointless things to do on a bay.. especially on a bog standard 1600. Perhaps they are just a conversation piece when you are parked up next to 12 million other buses at them there show things...

Whatever your engine, your brake compensator will switch your rear brakes off under any serious braking. Unless you want the rear to overtake the front, this is a good thing. I'd be unhappy driving a van where the rears have been upgraded and this front/rear balance messed with.

It doesn't make a lot of sense does it. Maybe not adjusting the brakes is the appeal... but then, if you find adjusting the handbrake a bit taxing, is it wise to try your hand at brake conversions? *strokes chin*

Early bays (mine at least) didn't have a compensator at all. They had two independent pistons on the front and bigger shoes, presumably for front/rear brake balance.
It's just my experience, but shoes seem to work better than discs. Maybe when VW added disc brakes to the front they had to add a brake compensator because of this?
Then when people complained how shit the brakes were generally they started adding servos.
I'm too lazy to check the history of this.

I’ve asked if it’ll make any difference to braking. I’ve had a lot done to mine but this always seemed pointless to me.

I wondered where this subject came from. What’s the thread called on TLB because now I’m interested in who the thread starter is.
