Anyone? I had one once but I skipped it after failing to make the engine idle. My solution was twin port heads and ICT's.

Anyone? I had one once but I skipped it after failing to make the engine idle. My solution was twin port heads and ICT's. Bit drastic for what I want Steve. Van runs fine when the climate is not wet and soggy but suffers terrible icing otherwise. It's got to the point now that the inlet manifolf must be blocked with so much carbon that it affects the engine when it gets to operating temp. I can put my hand on it when the rest of the engine is hot. I'd rather keep stuff stock if I can so am looking for a unblocked one to swap over. I've been warned off the aftermarket ones because of poor fitment and people having to cut them and re-weld.

Have you tried Megabug, Fbi Vw, Parts emporium etc? Bet they have loads. Or clean your existing one out?

I think toasty is thinking if he's going to that much effort he'd rather fit something known good. I recognise that approach in myself nowadays, I don't want to bugger about where there's a way that will definitely work first time. That's why after a week of different solex carbs on my manifold I slung it and fitted twinport heads and icts. That only took an easy day!

I changed my beetle to ict's for this exact reason! It too was a single port, and used to ice up like a bstard. I reckon finding a mint clean manifold is unlikely though... I would be tempted to just get one from a breakers or ebay, spend a bit of time cleaning it out at leisure, then swapping it over. It is a ball ache, but probably marginally less of a ball ache than fitting twin carbs
