Went out in the van the weekend and van was juddering and uphill was real struggle down to 1st gear. Long and short isi looked at the fuel filter which was blocked with black debris, which i suspect could be collapsed insides of fuel lines. Can anyone advise me what type is unleaded resistant. Is it the marine stuff i forgotton the number. Also how do i change then without losing all the fuel out of the tank.

I can't help with the type but recall one of the many companies did a kit which apparently lasted longer than a week, as for changing it when I split the one that exits the tank after bashing it with a mallet trying to un-stick my starter motor I got a short piece of fuel pipe which I'd blocked one end, pulled the pipe off the tank outlet and shoved that on a bit sharpish & ensuring I had a fuel pipe clip handy to tighten it up. This then leaves you free to replace all the pipework before finally attaching the new pipe once its all in place.

Clamp under tank. Replace pipes back from carb including the last bit ready to fit on tank outlet. To avoid a face full, jack offside rear and take the wheel off. Reach through and quickly remove old, plug new onto outlet. You won't spill more than a thimbleful. Find a local hose supplier that supplies Gates or some other known name brand of hose and it's no more expensive than JK shite.

So is it the R9 stuff I should be looking for? Nobody knows! The only piece on mine that doesn't have a seriously cracked outer layer (inners are fine so it's not caused by fuel) is R7, but what's good about it isn't the R number, it's the manufacturer - Goodyear. I've recently replaced a few more bits with Gates hose from my local, but it's too early to tell. I've had the goodyear bit for about 6-7 years, supplied by Laurie Pettit on my shite 1955cc engine. All just my opinion, but I think the wave of disintegrating pipes is nothing to do with ethanol, just crap materials generally so a good name brand is the way to go, preferably not sourced on ebay!
