Hi Guys and Gals Am thinking about solar on our tintop and have not seen much about such a thing. I dont want to start drilling the shell or glueing so am thinking Sheet Magnets, that I will fix to flexi solar panel, then running cables down the air intake any one done similar or has suggestions?

60-70mph and magnets? Lol. I think not. Just glue it round near the edge with sikoflex.

I've got a tin top, I'm thinking of putting a solar panel on my roof rack and dropping the wires down the intakes, no drilling ๐๐

I have marine solar panels that I roll up and store in the van then when I get on site I put them on the roof rack and plug into the electrical system in the engine bay! As long as it is relatively good weather it will charge the leisure battery over the course of a day ๐

He forgets that not all of us have a tuned 2.4 litre engine.

I know there have been various threads regarding solar on different forums, but can someone advise me what size(power) is the best to get. I'm not looking for a trickle charge but something man enough to keep my battery charged whilst being used camping. I don't have loads of things hooked up to the leisure, lighting, stereo and I'm looking at getting an electric cooler rather than a fridge.

You need to work out how many amps this cooler draws, and it depends on how much you want to spend on a panel. You'll need around ยฃ150 for a controller and 100w panel which will provide around 4amp on a good sunny day so you might not keep up with the draw but you will extend the use of your battery

Did this on a Race Transporter once, needed about 300w to keep up with the beer fridge so I'd suggest 100w is a good place to be.

He forgets that not all of us have a tuned 2.4 litre engine. Any standard 2l should be perfectly happy at 60-70mph Even a 1600 will be happy at 60-65mph Both will slow down up hills, that's where I win. I win at low revs too, bags of torque. Not top speed really, 75 is too fast for the head cooling. 70mph up hill and down dale is my heat limit.

I would say 100 watt minimum which will be pretty good in summer, maybe go for 200w if you want it to be effective in spring autumn too when there is less Sun to be had. I like the permanent mounted idea best as the us is charging itself from dawn till dusk without you even thinking about it. Loads of good solar threads on "other other place"

Kit is uber expensive too for what is essentially a load of bits I can get from ebay & a fabricated frame & some properly sized fixing for the roof!

I think they are quite expensive but push out about 16v and work in the shade but clearly are much better in direct sunlight!
