Where are you moored now? Roughly, north of Liverpool. I might wash the bugger today!

And lo, the van was washed. It looked ok but there were a few stains from window rubbers and some rust stains from the hacked awning brackets. I don't have a fine enough water based cutting compound to use by hand so I used the old favourite, T-cut. I know I shouldn't because it's wankerish stuff and not meant to be used on 2-pac, but it's always been fine. It was indeed fine on MY painting, but it melted it's way into the panels I'd had repaired and there it stayed. Trying to buff it off took a layer of paint off. I knew something was amiss as some spilt petrol had already washed some off. So back to the painter to see what he had to say and he's going to fix it, saying he has no idea what happened and can't remember what it was painted with in addition to the 1/2 cupful of my paint he somehow managed to paint 2 panels with. I expect he was trying helpfully to keep the cost down and it bit his arse - never help a customer. Ah well, shit happens, stuff does go wrong so we'll see what happens next time.

Is that part of the test ? a clean vehicle Conversely, if you arrive coated in road muck with one windscreen wiper they look much harder for faults and fail the borderline stuff because they know if they don't it'll never get fixed. If I arrive all polished and clean they assume I maintain it as a matter of course and just warn on the borderline things.

I've had this from the MOT tester. They are not bad people and try to do the right thing. If you need a kick up the arse you get it! Or to put it politely, they help everyone maintain their vehicles to a safe standard and some people need more help than others.

I always leave the washer so I can say "damn, forgot to pump it up". Guaranteed pass then. Trust me 100 camper MOT's in 8 years.

Life's all about creating the opportunity for others to do the right thing. I'm getting my panels repainted, no cost, everyone is as happy as they could be and on friendly terms, no law was laid down, no request for repaint made. I showed him, said I know I shouldn't really have used T-cut but something seems to gone wrong with what I had thought was an excellent job. Just the truth. He immediately offered bafflement and free fixing.
