Yes And no. Some inlet manifolds have a fat chunky bit bolted with a case bolt, some don't. IIRC you can wangle the non bolted type out from under the alternator once you get the LH end off, but it's been a while so don't blame me. Just in case, probably do it where you can change your mind and take out the engine. Just this aspect makes twin carbs a winner! Get that bracket hacked off.

So i've got another inlet manifold and some caustic soda although the inside is blowthroughable, i want it proper clean. My guy can't do it until sept now so i'll let him do the nearside front arch as well. Took him out last night and he goes ok'ish when the day has been hot still very slow though so i'm hoping a clear manifold will brighten things up somewhat.

I've had success with a length of clutch or handbrake cable in a drill. I threaded it through 6" of small conduit that I could hold to steer the cable and stop it whipping around. Drill direction set to keep the cable "wound up". 👍

Cable through conduit then into manifold allowing you to steer/hold the cable without burning your hand. Conduit is loose on the cable, not in the manifold. You'll see why you need this if you try to use a drill and cable.

Sorry I have trouble with visceral imagination sometimes am trying to get the mrs to take it into work and put it in "the bath" at the moment if they'll let me. I will get there

Not had any trouble with either of them. Don't order a new one till you have the old one out though.. they have invariably all been swapped about over the years, so you need to check size and type before you order.

Definitely check clutch size, I made that mistake years ago, new clutch for a 1977 van, unfortunately it was too big and I had to buy a second clutch.
