As the title says, anyone done one or know what's involved.
I have started to collect the bits, so far I have - a 5 blade Porsche fan with alternator - a type 4 Porsche fan shroud
Help needed please, cheers
Paul

Paul Weeding has one on his but he doesn't post here so TLB might be more fruitful for you. I'd pm him or phone him up. Can't remember what he goes under as a business or you could google his number.

Given the cost of Porsche parts I suppose that there must be significant benefits - I can see that it looks good and presumably cooling is improved, are there any others?

That's the thing, as far as I can work out there are no benefits at all. The DTM crowd say they are actually worse because they over cool in the wrong place but James at State Side swears by them, I just want to do it for cosmetic reasons, but I am quite shallow and vain😎

Fair enough - people put alloy wheels on etc. so why not a cool (pun intended) looking fan.
I guess that there must be some benefits as to my limited knowledge Paul Weeding knows his stuff as does Stateside.

Increasing it is for eeking out what really is the last 1/2 HP. As I love to remind anyone who'll listen I have a 2.4L type-4 engine. Bog standard everything except bigger b&p's, lightweight conrods and lots of skilled head work. Double the torque of a 1700 (it has 1700 heads). Uphill and down at 70mph satnav all day running cool. It has 4-5mm deck height to lower the CR back to VW reality. A lot of people would have got down to 9. something and reasoned that with "modern fuel" that should be ok. My own experience is 9:1 might be technically a bit nippier, but cruising at 55mph to keep it cool is frustrating and embarressing.

I may have problems with CR as it will also be running a merc slk supercharger Its going on a 1700 W code engine so has a higher CR to begin with so I am expecting the head temps to go up slightly I also have most of the the bits to build a 2.4 stoker around the supercharger but it will cost £££'s in machine work so in the meantime I was hoping to do a home brew on the 1700 and run it till it goes bang

So the medium term plan is a supercharged 2.4?
What sort of HP are you looking for or is it Torque that you want?

So the medium term plan is a supercharged 2.4? What sort of HP are you looking for or is it Torque that you want? Hi Chad, Torque is important as its going in a bus, HP not so bothered about, it makes what it makes. So rough spec is Supercharged 2.4 (ish) stroker as square as i can get it with sequential fuel injection and sequential spark and a free flow headers and (quiet) exhaust What I have so far - A complete and working W code 1700 - Extra 1700 case with cam, crank and heads - Supercharger and Intercooler (may change for a watercooler) -Megasquirt 2 Extra with JBPerf Sequential Fire and JBPerf Sequential Injection modules -Bosche fuel injectors and injector inlet manifolds - LS2 coil packs - Timing triggers for crank and cam - Porsche Fan and Alternator (also have an upright fan as well) What I need - Knowledge - Bits to make a 1700 into a 2.4 stroker - A whole load of machining (I guess)
