As it's you i can post it. Thanks Oscar but it's easier to let nobby take it. The only reason I zeroed in on it was me and my van have been having a battle of wills for the last four or five years sometimes it decides to just 'click' rather than turn over, obviously I refuse to do anything as common as getting out and laying underneath it hitting things, so I just sit in the seat and continue 'clicking' with the key until eventually the van concedes defeat and fires up, (record so far is 1 1/2 mins and about 40 'clicks'). I did go as far as fitting a brand new starter and solenoid about two years ago but me and the van still occasionally go through the same struggle for dominance. Realistically I doubt I'll actually do anything constructive to address the problem until I'm forced to by the van. Even then I'll probably just try cleaning all the contacts first and then try a new ignition switch because it might be that. Just wondered bob do you have many keys on your key ring ? Do you put it in far enuff or not too far ooower , they do that when their warn ,well mine does but it's very worn if you know what I mean The switch I mean !

Get out of van and go around the back. Put all your weight on the little rascal and rock it back an' forth a few times. Get back in might fire up

Mine only just turns over, then next 3 or 4 times it spins without engaging the flywheel, then it just about turns over, fires and dies, then next time it starts. It did the same when it was fitted to the early but it always starts eventually.

If it helps, I had a similar problem and tried various things (cleaning contacts, new bush in the gearbox, etc.) the thing that made the biggest difference was fitting a relay so the switching current only comes from the ignition key and a nice fat 13v goes to the solenoid! oscar - you are a gentleman, a very generous gentleman. Good luck with your move
