I guess that it must have happened, whatever it was, since the last MOT.
If it wasn't a kerb I'd guess at sleeping policemen - I seem to remember reading something a while ago about this sort of damage when you straddle them.
There's probably enough content in the last sentence to trigger off a few remarks.
